As promised, here is part two of our blog series with The Sassy Barn’s Ashlee Keene and her bathroom reveal! (Click here to read part one of the series.) Ashlee had a one of a kind idea that completely transformed her bathroom into an antique dream. Using a porcelain vessel sink from MR Direct, she was able to turn an old dresser into a beautiful new vanity!

When we bought the home, it only had one bathroom. We really wanted a second bathroom so we started measuring the basement, and from there I started designing and planning how it would look and function. We had very little obstacles, which was a surprise considering the house is 70 years old. We did have to cut through the concrete to add new pipes as well as dig 20-foot holes for a new septic system to accommodate for the new bathroom.
When we bought the home, it only had one bathroom. I knew I wanted an antique dresser vanity and loved what MR Direct had to offer for vessel sinks. I was very happy with the selection and love the quality of the sink. I wanted to go with a vintage/antique look for this bathroom, which I feel was achieved.

What has been the most rewarding part of this renovation? What has been the most challenging?

The most rewarding part was meeting our two-month goal of completely gutting the home and putting it back together with a very short amount of time. The most challenging part was running into Asbestos issues, which initially delayed us.

What piece of advice would you give someone wanting to start a complete bathroom renovation? What obstacles should they prepare to face?

I would recommend starting with the guts of the bathroom and having everything checked before putting it back together. Or in our case, since we added a bathroom, bringing a licensed plumber to make sure your project can be completed before getting too far. Prepare to face delays, extra costs, and minor hiccups. Never feel intimidated as that will only hold you back from creating what you really want to achieve!

I have so many plans for this home, and we have only just gotten started on the initial part of it! We plan to add on an addition that will feature a master suite and a new bathroom, along with a Jack and Jill bathroom. In regard to my boutique, I see only great things for Sassy Barn as I continue to be inspired every day, and create new pieces to add to the shop all the time!
