How to Decorate the Perfect Farmhouse Bathroom
July 17, 2020

Your bathroom has been dark and dreary for too long! It’s time to lighten it up and add a cozy feel with some farmhouse design inspiration.

The farmhouse look is defined by mixing modern tastes with a rustic American style. It incorporates wooden accents, shiplap, porcelain whites, soft fabrics, and natural décor—many things you may have in your bathroom already.

Our experts offer a few tricks and tweaks on how to decorate the perfect farmhouse bathroom without a remodel or a headache.

Let The Light In

Let The Light In

The most important part of a farmhouse bathroom is light.

Maximize natural light exposure by taking down curtains and switching to textured glass for privacy. If you have a small window, add mirrors to amplify the light.

In the evening, make sure your bathroom lights are soft. This will mimic the comforting feel of candlelight and make your post-bed ritual a soothing transition.

Add a Vessel Sink

Adding a vessel sink is a great way to change the look of your bathroom without spending much time or cash.

They make wonderful additions to farmhouse bathrooms because they embody a mix of old and new styles.

Add a copper sink if you need more rustic reds and browns. Or, go for a classic porcelain sink in stylish modern design.

We’re partial to white polystone vessel sinks. They offer the same clean appearance as porcelain but have a unique exterior texture with a matte finish.

Contrast Old and New

Contrast Old and New

When you’re ready to decorate, the key is to combine the antique and the modern. One of our favorite ways to do this is by upcycling.

Upcycling is to take something old and reuse it for something new. These are some fantastic upcycling ideas that capture the farmhouse spirit:

  • Use mason jars for storing toothbrushes, razors, creams, etc.
  • Replace your boring counter with an antique vanity.
  • Switch out shelves for hanging wicker baskets
  • Add brick or vintage tile to the floor or wall

TIP: Remember not to go overboard with upcycling. The key is to find a balance between old and new. You don’t want your bathroom to end up looking like your shed!

Freshen Up With Nature

Adding natural notes is also an important part of the farmhouse look. The color in this design style is inspired by natural elements like wildflowers and green plants.

The easiest way to decorate is to add some actual flowers and plants to your bathroom. Remember to keep them fresh as the seasons pass. In the winter, you can switch out flowers for red berries and spruce branches.

If you don’t live near nature, you can add items in natural colors like maize yellow, sky blue, and forest green. You can do this with artwork, towels, floor mats, etc. Just make sure the natural colors don’t overpower the white/wood farmhouse base.

Turning your bathroom into a farmhouse style could be as easy as liberating a covered window and adding some wildflowers! If you love your farmhouse bathroom, consider matching it with a farmhouse kitchen.
