How to Remodel a Small Bathroom
March 19, 2021

Remodeling a small bathroom can be frustrating. You want to squeeze as much space out of the room as possible while adding modern amenities that you love.

The general rule is that if you want to maximize your space, you need to do a labor-intensive remodel. We’re not talking about tearing down walls, but you may have to pull out the tub, shower, or sink to find that extra square footage.

The good news is that these changes are not hard to make, and if you do them right, the rewards are worth it.

Here’s how to remodel your small bathroom:

Opt For Open Shelves

Opt For Open Shelves

Replace cabinets and drawers with open shelves. When you need to open doors and drawers, it can make your space seem even more cramped. Consider adding open shelving under your vanity and sink. You can also add some shelves to the walls, but be careful as eye-level shelves can make a small room seem crowded.

Add A Vessel Sink

Depending on how small your space is, you might be able to fit a vanity and install a vessel sink on top. This will allow for more countertop space to fit light decor like a candle or faux flowers alongside your hand soap.

We love vessel sinks since they save space without sacrificing what you want in a bathroom sink area. Plus, they come in so many different materials like porcelain, glass, bamboo and stone, so the options are endless.

Use The Door

Use The Door

Don’t forget that your bathroom door is a valuable space. You can use your door to:

  • Install a towel rack
  • Put dirty clothes in a hanging hamper
  • Place a mirror

Or, you can replace your swinging door with a sliding door to create a more spacious entry.

Decorate With Large Patterns And Mirrors

Decorate With Large Patterns And Mirrors

Half the battle of remodeling your small bathroom is making it seem larger than it really is. You can trick the eye by decorating with large patterns, thick stripes, and big tiles.

Mirrors are also an easy way to drastically expand the perception of space. Big mirrors on the wall and door, as well as plenty of natural light, will open your small bathroom up considerably.

If you want to know how to remodel a small bathroom, remember this: go big or go home. The only way you’re going to find more space is to make some real alterations.

But that’s not a bad thing. The benefit of remodeling a small bathroom is that it’s, well, small! So even big jobs are relatively easy.
