Does your bathroom feel stark, cluttered, or just plain dull? Does it feel as though your bathroom is a bit outdated? Or maybe you just want to enhance the relaxation of your most private room. Whatever your reason, these simple tips will help you to achieve your goal of giving your bathroom the spa treatment.
Organization
First things first, the best way to make your bathroom more relaxing is by clearing out the junk. Start by taking out all your medicine and toiletries, and throwing out anything expired or empty. Buying some dollar store bins and small boxes will help to give everything a proper place, and can be kept in drawers and under the sink. Then you should go through your linen closet. Add any old unloved towels and sheets to your donation pile, or cut them up into cleaning rags. Lastly, refold what is left to give a neat and organized look.
Colors
Speaking of the linen closet, it may be time to get some new towels, a bathroom mat, and curtains for the shower and window. When choosing a new accent color for your bathroom, consider muted dusty shades. Colors like blue, green and grey work well for bathroom linens. White is always a safe bet and can be easy to keep clean by washing them in bleach and hot water. An impressive look can be achieved by layering shades of the same color throughout the room.
Scents
Nothing soothes quite like the look and smell of candles. Organic beeswax candles have a lovely natural smell to them. If you prefer scented candles, make sure the scents compliment each other or are all the same. Avoid artificial sounding scents that are named after places like, “rain forest”, “tropical beach”, or “spring meadow”. Stick to natural and simple scents such as lavender, rosemary, and eucalyptus instead. If candles aren’t your thing, oil diffusing fragrance reeds are simple, beautiful, and provide long-lasting scent to a room.
Greenery
Plants go surprisingly far in making a room more relaxing, open, and inviting. A couple of easy and attractive indoor plants that don’t need much sun or water but also clean the air are Boston ferns and Golden Pothos. For an aromatic experience, try hanging eucalyptus in the shower; the hot water and steam activate the essential oils, filling your bathroom with an invigorating scent.
