I’m a corporate lawyer turned home & lifestyle blogger in Charleston, SC. My blog, Franc & Eli, combines my mother’s name (Francesca) and my name (Elizabeth), because so much of my home and décor style (and general lifestyle know-how!) comes from things I learned growing up watching and helping my mother around the house.

We began with a problem: the bathroom tub tilted the wrong way so it would not drain all the way. We found this out the hard way – by washing our muddy dogs in there the first time we used it and then being left with a gross mess that would not drain away! So we knew we had to make this bathroom renovation one of the highest priorities in our new home renovation. We completely demo’ed the bathroom, and then started rebuilding, tile-by-tile!

What made you choose the Antique Bronze finish for your fixtures?
What made you choose the Antique Bronze finish for your fixtures?
Because I was using so much white subway tile and a lot of other brighter / lighter elements, I wanted some crisper lines of contrast. The Antique Bronze was perfect to achieve these pops of crisp, darker color. I didn’t want to go with black because that can be a little too harsh for the natural vibe I was going for. The dark antique bronze was perfect for this. I’ve added a few other antique bronze elements (the towel rod, the knobs on the vanity, and toilet paper holder) to tie it all together.

What has been the most rewarding part of renovating your bathroom? The most challenging?

The most rewarding part was definitely using it for the first time! It’s also so bright and beautiful that I leave the door open to let the light pour into the hallway – which is great because the hallway is otherwise pretty dark.

Take it one step at a time. This was our first full bathroom remodel and nothing was too confusing for our relatively novice skill-levels. Both tiling and plumbing are incredibly easy and “logical” – and when in doubt, google it! We got all of our information on YouTube and other online tutorials.
