MR Direct offers a complete line of copper sinks for both kitchen and bath, but is copper the right choice for you? Consider some of copper's attributes to help you make the right decision.
Because of its inherent, classic attractiveness alone, copper is becoming an ever-increasing choice over the more common porcelain or stainless steel. The beauty of copper is timeless, but changes over time due to what is often considered its living finish.
Oxidation slowly produces a coating on the copper surface known as a patina. The color varies, but is generally a blend of dark browns and greens. This effect is usually a major incentive for purchasing a copper sink, therefore MR Direct does not coat its copper sinks with any lacquers or waxes which can temporarily delay the patina.
Copper is also actively anti-microbial. Bacteria will be decimated within hours after making contact. This is a great safety benefit, especially for those who wash and set vegetables in their sink, and yet another reason we do not apply coatings.
Because copper is a softer metal, it can be more susceptible to dings and scratches; but MR Direct has taken a few precautions to avoid these problems. First, our 99% pure copper sinks are constructed of sufficient thickness to withstand mild blows. Second, our sinks have either a hand-hammered or pressed pattern which not only strengthens them, but adds to their aesthetic appeal. Additionally, the textured finish and on-going oxidation will disguise minor scratches over time.
Some attention needs to be paid to a copper sink, as acidic foods and abrasive cleansers can temporarily discolor the patina, but with a bit of care, the allure of a copper sink can make a significant design statement in your kitchen or bath.
